Le 15 juin, 4ème journée mondiale contre la maltraitance des personnes âgées

Un sondage réalisé par "TNS Sofres" pour la Fédération Hospitalière de France vient rappeler qu'une grande majorité de Français (78 %) pense que "l'on ne parle pas assez des problèmes et de la prise en charge des personnes âgées". Cette opinion étant en constante augmentation: 63 % en 2005 et 71 % en 2007.

Des personnes âgées, en particulier les plus fragiles d'entre elles, sont victimes d'actes révoltants, contraires au respect de la dignité et souvent au droit:

Indélicatesses, négligences, traitements dégradants, abus de confiance, pressions financières, démarchages commerciaux abusifs, violences verbales voire actes de maltraitance physiques sont quelques uns des maux auxquels elles sont exposées.

L’essentiel des cas de maltraitance a lieu à domicile. Remédier à ces situations ne passe pas forcément par le circuit judiciaire, mais par l’écoute et la médiation, ce qui demande du temps et l’implication de nombreux intervenants.

Du 1er au 15 juin 2009, en complément à un travail de sensibilisation et de formation réalisé tout au long de l’année, a eu lieu des rencontres, des débats, des temps de travail en collaboration avec deux autres acteurs : AFBAH et ALMA France.

Cette mobilisation réunit tous les centres départementaux ALMA, le réseau des petits frères des Pauvres et d’autres acteurs sociaux départementaux et municipaux, publics et privés.

Parce que le droit de vote est une valeur fondamentale de notre société, parce que le handicap, les ennuis de santé liés au vieillissement et l’isolement empêchent parfois les personnes âgées de se déplacer seules pour accomplir un acte citoyen, les petits frères des Pauvres ont décidé de mettre en place « citoyens…encore et toujours ! ».
